Great British Bake Off bets halted by Ladbrokes
Ladbrokes has halted betting on BBC reveal the Great British Bake Off after a flurry of wagers sparked fears the winner's name might have been dripped.
"A run of bets" was placed for one contestant, numerous at stores in the Ipswich area, the bookie stated.
It is not known which baker prompted the flurry or whether any candidates have connections with the Suffolk town.
The very first episode of the popular amateur baking contest aired on BBC One Wednesday evening.
It is the 6th series of the program, which challenges 12 hopefuls to impress judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

Each week the amateur bakers are expected to take on a baking challenge, with minimal directions, and a "signature meal".

The bookmaker said a flurry of bets came in for among the 12 participants whose odds began at 12/1 and were minimized to 6/1, 3/1 and then evens.

"We used prices on Monday and, almost before the ink was dry, an unusual number of punters were in a rush to back just one candidate," David Williams of Ladbrokes said.
"On Tuesday and Wednesday it was more of the same one-way traffic. That sufficed to set our alarm bells ringing and, as a safety measure, we suspended our betting.
"Hopefully, we'll go back up with modified chances faster rather than later, but we didn't want to get caught with our trousers took down and a soggy bottom, so we have actually chosen to kick back up until we are assured that Bake Off hasn't gone off already.
"When you see a run of bets like this promotion code for one candidate at the expense of everyone else that can be an indication to suspend wagering for a bit to assess the circumstance," he included.
Several of the bets positioned were the maximum the bookie would consider wagers made on the program's result, and 90% were put on one candidate.
The suspension would not impact bets currently positioned, the business stated.
